Barron Ryan

September 18 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Barron Ryan, the son of two musicians, grew up in a house filled with the sounds of artists ranging from Mozart to Michael Jackson. So when he performs, Ryan is not content drawing on just one influence. His musical career did not come easy. Rejected from music conservatories and disheartened, Barron gave up piano in pursuit of a satirical hip-hop career. But a favorable result in a piano competition that sent the winner to perform internationally changed all that. Barron found his artistic voice. He discovered jazz and ragtime inspired concert music and learned from great jazz pianists by transcribing and replaying their solos.

In 2019, Barron noticed a lack of funk, pop, and country inspired classical music and composed the “Magic City” Sonata and a dance suite called “Suite Thing.” In 2021, he added commissioned composer to his resume when he was commissioned by Chamber Music Tulsa to produce a role to commemorate the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Smithsonian Magazine called Barron one of the ten innovators to watch in 2021.
